BYRON BAY

Just the other day, my significant other and I gallivanted away to Byron Bay to avoid the rains of Brisbane. And what a splendid time was had. Byron is one of my favourite escapes and I swear it gets more scenic every time I go. The vibe is laid-back, people are friendly and smiles are all round.

STAY

If you’re feeling low key, camp out in the back of your car for the best sunrise seats in the house, or stay in one of the tonnes of backpacker joints. Got a bit more cash to splash? Go waterfront at Wategos for the ultimate experience.

PLAY

The lighthouse walk is a no brainer and whilst the climb is steep, the view from the top is so worth it. Dive into the waves at Wategos Beach to cool down. Take a drive through country towns. Mullumbimby (aka the home of the oh so fancy Iggy Azalea) is just as quaint as you would expect and ticks all the rural boxes- local pub hub and all. Bangalow is almost too pretty to be real. Bright green hills roll into each other and streets lined with palm trees (there’s actually a palm tree farm nearby) are filled with cute boutiques and all the organic food one could need. And take the scenic route home- we went via Tweed Heads to catch the sunset over the ocean.

EAT

Orgasmic café does the best falafels you will ever sink your teeth into. Honestly to die for and will leave you dreaming of more. The Top Shop does all kinds of culinary delights and Miss Margarita is one of the cutest Mexican places around. And if money isn’t an issue, Rays on Wategos is both beautiful and a wonderful dining experience.

SHOP

Mr Simple is a go to for edgy guys basics, and Pompidou (both on Fletcher Street) offers all the goods in the form of Sass and Bide, Bassike and Lack of Colour. Lawson street is scattered with great little boutiques (good quality second hand designer gear at great prices) so take the time to have a wander.

WHAT TO PACK

Your Nike frees will come in handy, as well your favourite pair of boyfriend jeans and grey tee. A denim jacket will help you look the part, and also help with the cool evening breezes. Togs are a must, and by piling on the dainty jewellery you’ll fit right in.
