Earlier this year I got the chance to wanderlust away to Hawaii- the magical island home of great shopping, seriously breathtaking beaches and utter relaxation. And it did not disappoint.

We rested well at The Modern Honolulu. Its beachfront location gave beautiful views of the ocean and perfect service sealed the deal. This place evens smells heavenly. Two pools (one is totally kiddy free) offer a tonne of relaxation opportunities and the onsite beauty salon makes pamerping all too easy. The room service rocks, too.

Hire an umbrella and chairs on Waikiki beach and laze around for hours achieving nothing but an awesome tan. Rent out paddle boards and cruise around the Hilton Lagoon. Tick surfing lessons off your bucket list. Hike Diamond Head. Rent a sick ride and drive around the island. Sleep by the pool. Watch some of the most exquisite sunsets you’ll ever experience.

PF Changs is a no brainer for yummy, quick eats. Duke’s Waikiki pays homage to their local surfing hero and serves up awesome burgers and beach food. The Honolulu Coffee Company does ace coffee and mouth watering acai bowls. Bubba Gump provides the classic American eat-out experience and the Mai Tai Bar at Ala Moana kills it on the salad front.

Head to the Ala Moana centre to tick off all your department store lists and hit up classics like American Apparel and Banana Republic. The Waikiki shopping strip also won’t disappoint, offering up everything from Urban Outfitters and H&M to Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu. And don’t forget T Galleria; everything there is duty free for travellers. May as well buy two of it all.

A couple of pairs of togs and linen pants will go all the distance here. Airy frocks and sandals will go perfectly from beach to bar, just add some funky earrings and you’re good to go. It can get a bit chilly at night thanks to the fresh beach breeze so keep a light cardigan on hand in case. And don’t pack to heavy- you’re going to buy more than you expect (trust me).
